James and the Giant Peach

James Henry Trotter is about to go on the adventure of a lifetime. James lives with his awful Aunt Sponge and awful Aunt Spiker, two of the meanest people you can imagine. Life isn't much fun at all, until something peculiar happens at the bottom of his garden... A peach at the very top of a tree begins to grow... and grow... and GROW! Inside are seven very unusual insects - all waiting to take James on an extraordinary journey.
Meet the Characters
James Henry Trotter
James is miserable when we first meet him; his parents died when he was very young and his beastly aunts don’t let him have the kind of fun a child should have. But when a mysterious peach grows at the end of his garden, he embraces a group of new friends who introduce him to just how spectacular the world can be.
Aunt Sponge
Along with her sister, Aunt Sponge treats her nephew James horribly, making him do all the housework and not allowing him to meet any other children.
Aunt Spiker
Aunt Spiker is not the kind and cuddly aunt you might hope for. When she’s not bossing James about, she’s squabbling with her sister.
Old-Green-Grasshopper
The Grasshopper is a wise creature who feels that his musical skills are unappreciated inside the Giant Peach. He takes a shine to James and keeps an eye on him throughout their adventure.
Centipede
The Centipede is a pest, and he’s very proud of that - almost as proud as he is of his forty-two legs and accompanying shoes. He’s joyful and enjoys a joke and a song, often lightening the mood when things don’t go to plan.
Miss Spider
Miss Spider is a much more helpful creature than you or I might realise - and it is her incredible thread that helps James and his friends get out of a sticky situation.
Earthworm
The Earthworm is a rather serious creature, and finds some of his companions tiresome. He is very proud not to be a pest, but instead loved by gardeners the world over.
Ladybird
The Ladybird is a great friend to James during his trip aboard the Giant Peach, and her kindness gives him comfort when the adventure takes a turn for the frightening.
Silkworm
Although a quiet creature, the Silkworm is an invaluable member of the Peach’s crew - her skilled silk-spinning gets James and the other bugs out of some nasty scrapes.
Glow-worm
She might spend a lot of her time sleeping, but the Glow-worm provides the main source of light for James and his friends aboard the Giant Peach.
