The Twits Afternoon Tea Opens to Rave Reviews at Marriott Hotel
Muggle-Wump brownies, Jam Roly-Poly sponge and Trick or Twit scones - indulge your inner child and enter into the story of The Twits with a brand-new themed Afternoon Tea inspired by the iconic book.
This summer, take a trip to The Marriott County Hall Hotel for a perfectly playful afternoon tea experience at this quintessential British hotel with iconic views across London’s River Thames. Keep reading to find out what to expect!
With a menu for both adults and children, guests will be able to enjoy a delicious afternoon tea filled with tasty twists and tricks, inspired by some of Mr and Mrs Twit’s most memorable moments.
Items include a deliciously revolting new take on Wormy Spaghetti (‘Hampshire’ Cucumber Worms, Cream Cheese, Wholemeal Bread), Mrs Twit’s Bird Pie (Chicken, Leek & Ham) and a culinary exploration of Mr Twit’s beard across three separate savories.
Sweets are inspired by much loved characters, the Muggle-Wumps and the Roly-Poly Bird.
And of course no afternoon tea would be complete without scones, though in true Twits-style there’s a twist! Guests will get buttermilk or marmite scones, but they won’t know which one is which until they try them!
To drink, adults can enjoy a selection of teas or add a glass of champagne and children will have the choice of Skillywiggler Lemonade with Frogspawn (lemonade with apple pearls) or Roly-Poly Berry Juice (berry milkshake with white chocolate feather).
The interior of the tea room is a celebration of The Twits story and characters, with nods to their eccentric and tricksy ways decorating the surroundings. Look out for Wormy Spaghetti, Hug-Tight Glue, the Big Dead Tree, and a collection of horrible twit-ish books.
Children also receive an activity booklet with colouring pencils to keep them entertained while waiting for their tea, with puzzles inspired by Mr Twit's beard and Mrs Twit's many balloons.
Fans from all over the country have made the trip to try the afternoon tea. Tea From Above said, "Roald Dahl fans young & old... this treat's for you!" while Junior Magazine said, "The menu is revolting but DELICIOUS!" Kiddo Adventures were blown away, describing the experience as, "Perfect for families, with whimsical decor, unique savoury bites and sweet treats," and EatnLondon summed it up with, "I live for afternoon teas like this."
